If so, you need DSL ...
CS Technologies Plus / CSOnline is proud to offer high speed DSL Internet connectivity to much of our local area. If you have the need for a high speed Internet connection for file sharing, video/audio streaming, email, or just faster web browsing--DSL may be right for you!
What is DSL?
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology for bringing high bandwidth information to homes and small businesses over ordinary copper telephone lines. DSL does not use your regular voice telephone line, but uses a special line configured for DSL only. With DSL you never have to dial-up and connect...because your computer has an "always on" connection to the Internet!
DSL is available in speeds ranging from 128Kbps to 1.5Mbps (up to 50 times faster than a standard dial-up connection.) DSL is only available to users within approximately 18,000 feet (3.4 miles) of a supporting telephone company office. (Technical support has access to special software to help determine your distance from the closest supporting telephone company's office.)
Where is it available?
DSL is available in the following areas (within approximately 18,000 feet of the main telephone company office):
Via CS Technologies Plus / CSOnline (SDSL)
- Oil City

Frequently Asked Questions
I have a business with 3 or 4 people using
the Internet, sometimes all at one time. Would DSL be a good choice
for me?
A high speed DSL connection can be an excellent choice for
many smaller business networks. Please contact technical support
for specific recommendations based on your computer network and the
specific needs of your business.
I am a home user. Would DSL be a good
choice for me?
DSL will provide you with a faster Internet connection
than a standard dial-up modem. This means your email will send and
receive faster, you can easily and quickly transfer large files, and
web pages will load much faster. Plus, some activities such as online
video gaming and video streaming often require a high speed connection
such as DSL. If you would enjoy these benefits, DSL is certainly worth
a closer look.
I work out of my home. Would DSL be a good choice for
me?
DSL can be an excellent choice for users working from home. Compared
to a regular dial-up connection, your email will send and receive faster,
you can easily and quickly transfer large files, and web pages will
load much faster. Plus, if you work for a company with a corporate
network, you can connect to the network remotely from your home if
the network allows it.
Are there any "extras" that are included
with CSOnline DSL service?
Yes. DSL includes free access to
a dial-up account for back-up purposes. Plus, businesses with a website
receive 25% off the cost of web hosting. Not to mention the other extras:
free leasing of DSL modem, static IP address, 10 email accounts, phone
tech support, and free Internet class. Contact CS Technologies Plus for complete
details.
How do I know if DSL is available to me?
The first step is
to call CS Technologies Plus/CSOnline tech support. We can tell you if you are a candidate
for DSL based on your location to a supporting phone company office.
Due to other technical factors (we can give you more details if you
call) we cannot guarantee DSL will work at your location until it is
actually working! There is never any cost to you if it doesn't work.
How much does DSL cost?
Please call for pricing. See phone numbers
and email address below.
Can I use DSL and my telephone on the same
line?
No. Your DSL line can only be used for DSL, not voice. In other
words, the DSL line will not have a dial tone.
Is CS Technologies Plus / CSOnline's DSL symmetrical
or asymmetrical?
Symmetrical means the upload and download speeds are the same.
Asymmetrical means they are different. CSOnline's DSL is symmetrical which will
provide you with the best possible performance.
Do I need to call
the phone company and have them install another phone line to use with
my DSL?
No. CS Technologies Plus must take care of the arrangements to have the
special DSL line installed. Currently I have an extra phone line that
is used for the Internet.
Since I am going to order DSL, does this
mean that I can have the extra phone line removed?
We do not recommend
having your extra phone line removed until DSL is successfully installed
and operating.
Can I convert one of my existing phone lines to my DSL
line?
No. DSL requires that a new special type of phone line be installed.
We cannot have a regular phone line converted into a DSL line.
Will
my email be affected?
Your email will upload and download faster! Plus
you receive up to 10 email accounts with your DSL. If you currently
have email accounts with
CS Technologies Plus/CSOnline, those will not be affected.
Is there
any equipment I need to buy?
DSL requires a special modem (or router).
However, the cost of leasing this item is included in the DSL charge.
Your computer also needs to be equipped with a Network card (NIC card)
to use DSL. Many of today's computers come with a Network card installed
as standard equipment. If your computer doesn't have one, you will
need to have one installed. They are not difficult to install. (We
can quote you a price on this if desired.)
How long does it take to
get DSL after I place my order?
Approximately 30 days. There are numerous
steps involved with setting up DSL. Such as: the installation of the
DSL line at the phone company and the set-up and testing of the line
at your location. Keep in mind, 30 days is an estimate based on everything
going as planned.
Is my IP address dynamic or static?
CS Technologies Plus/CSOnline DSL
service will provide you with a static IP address. This allows you
to access a corporate network and/or use third-party software to work
remotely over a virtual private network (VPN) if desired.
My business
has existing dedicated Internet service, would DSL make sense as a
back up system?
Yes. In most cases DSL would work as a backup connection.
However, this does take some thought and there may instances where
concessions need to be made when operating on the backup DSL circuit.
Please contact our Sales Department and they will be glad to discuss
this with you.
I only want my computer connected to the Internet when
I am using it. Can I connect and disconnect at will?
Yes. Exactly what
you will need to accomplish this will vary with the internal equipment
on your side. However, in most cases you will simply unplug the Ethernet
cable from your computer or the DSL modem.
